Indonesian numbers are one of the easiest parts of the language — fully regular and pronounced exactly as spelled. This guide covers 1 to a million with phonetic pronunciation, practical bargaining scenarios, and how to say prices and dates.
| # | Indonesian | Pronunciation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | satu | SA-too |
| 2 | dua | DOO-ah |
| 3 | tiga | TEE-gah |
| 4 | empat | UHM-paht |
| 5 | lima | LEE-mah |
| 6 | enam | EH-nahm |
| 7 | tujuh | TOO-joo |
| 8 | delapan | duh-LA-pahn |
| 9 | sembilan | suhm-BEE-lahn |
| 10 | sepuluh | suh-POO-loo |
| Number | Indonesian | Pronunciation |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | sebelas | suh-BUH-lahs |
| 15 | lima belas | LEE-mah buh-LAHS |
| 20 | dua puluh | DOO-ah POO-loo |
| 50 | lima puluh | LEE-mah POO-loo |
| 100 | seratus | suh-RA-toos |
| 500 | lima ratus | LEE-mah RA-toos |
| 1,000 | seribu | suh-REE-boo |
| 10,000 | sepuluh ribu | suh-POO-loo REE-boo |
| 100,000 | seratus ribu | suh-RA-toos REE-boo |
| 1,000,000 | satu juta | SA-too JOO-tah |
In markets, sellers often say "lima puluh" meaning 50,000 rupiah (~€3), not 50. When unsure, confirm with "ribu?" (thousand?) or "ratus ribu?" (hundred thousand?).
Memorise the base words (satu to sepuluh). Everything else is built from them.
Add belas after the single digit: sebelas (11), dua belas (12), tiga belas (13)... Note: 11 uses se- instead of satu.
Add puluh after the tens digit: dua puluh (20), tiga puluh (30), etc. For 25 = dua puluh lima.
seratus (100), seribu (1,000), satu juta (1,000,000). "Se-" means "one" when attached to ratus/ribu.
Walk through a market scenario: "Berapa harganya? Lima puluh ribu." (How much? 50,000 rupiah). Bargaining is easier once numbers are automatic.

satu (1), dua (2), tiga (3), empat (4), lima (5), enam (6), tujuh (7), delapan (8), sembilan (9), sepuluh (10). Pronunciation is fully regular — read each word as spelled.
Prices are often shortened in speech. "Lima puluh" in a market usually means 50,000 rupiah (around €3), not 50. Confirm by asking "ribu?" (thousand?) or "ratus ribu?" (hundred thousand?) when paying large amounts.
100 is seratus. 200 = dua ratus, 300 = tiga ratus. 1,000 = seribu, 10,000 = sepuluh ribu, 100,000 = seratus ribu, 1,000,000 = satu juta.
Add the prefix ke- before the number: kesatu (or pertama = first), kedua (second), ketiga (third), keempat (fourth). "The first time" = pertama kali.
Zero is nol (pronounced "nohl") in informal speech, or kosong (KO-song, literally "empty") in most daily contexts, especially phone numbers and prices.
